Assalamualaikum

Alhamdulillah and we are grateful to Allah s.w.t because of His blessing we are celebrating maulid (birthday) of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him (pbuh), Prayers and peace to our beloved Prophet Muhammad, pbuh, the seal of all Prophets, the messenger of grace to the world.

The Prophet, pbuh, gave glad tidings to anyone who undertakes the task of seeking knowledge. The Prophet ,pbuh, said, “Seeking knowledge is obligatory upon every Muslim (male and female)” and Abu Hurairah r.a relates that the Prophet pbuh said, "For him who embarks on the path of seeking knowledge, Allah will ease for him the way to Jannah." If no Hadith on the importance of knowledge besides this one had been uttered by him, it would have been enough for Muslims. Yet the Prophet pbuh did more than that he motivated his companions to seek knowledge: Ibn Mas'ud relates that the Prophet ,pbuh, said, "Only two persons are worthy of being envied; a person upon whom Allah bestows riches and gives him the power to spend it in a righteous cause; and a person upon whom Allah bestows wisdom by which he judges and which he teaches."

He used to congratulate the companions whenever they issued a right judgement or correctly answered a question. Imam Muslim narrates that once the Prophet pbuh asked Ubai Ibn Ka'b, "Do you know which verse in Allah's Book is the greatest?" Ubai answered by reciting Ayat Al-Kursi (the verse of the Throne, Surah Al-Baqarah Verse 255) The Messenger kindly patted him on the chest, saying, "Congratulations, Abu Al-Munthir for this knowledge".

The Prophet ,pbuh, also taught us not to be selfish or stingy when it comes to charity especially to travellers. According to a hadith, the prophet ,pbuh, said one of the three people God will ignore on the Day of Resurrection is the person who refuses to give water (a form of charity) to a traveller in need.

There countless examples of what we should emulate from the Prophet ,pbuh, and this is the path to the Jannah.

Say, (O Muhammad, to mankind): If ye love Allah, follow me; Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.”
(Surah Ali Imran Verse 31).

In Malaysia, Maulidil Rasul falls on Sunday 5th February 2012 consequently Monday 6th February is a Public holiday. If you’re in Malaysia this time to watch the celebration of Maulidil Rasul.
