Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA — It was a double celebration recently at Malaysia Tourism Centre (Matic) in Kuala Lumpur.
Ten years after a fleet of city tour buses was launched at Matic and sent out into the streets, the KL Hop-On Hop-Off (or KL Hoho as it’s more popularly known) returns to Matic for its 10th anniversary celebration. The event was officiated by Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz.
According to KL Hoho operator Elang Wah Sdn Bhd spokesperson, the “free-and-easy” city public tour bus service has garnered around a million passengers, including both locals and foreign visitors, during the last 10 years. KL Hoho links over 70 major attractions, shopping centres and more than 100 hotels, in Kuala Lumpur, making the open deck double-decker buses, a very convenient way for tourists to see the city.
There is also an informative onboard commentary in English and other major languages. Passengers can hop-on and hop-off as many times as they wish at the stops during the validity of their ticket.
Tickets are available for 24 hours (priced from RM45 for adults and RM24 for children) and 48 hours (priced from RM79 for adults and RM43 for children). They can be purchased through the website (www.myhoponhopoff.com), authorised agents, hotels, KL Hoho counters, or in the bus itself. Children below five get to ride for free, and children below 12 must be accompanied by an adult. The bus interval waiting time is between 20 to 30 minutes. It operates 365 days per year, including public holidays.
In conjunction with KL Hoho’s 10th anniversary, AboutKL.my was also launched. This online platform, bearing the tagline “things to know about Kuala Lumpur and beyond” enables bloggers, and media to share tourism-related stories about nature, heritage and culture, food, accommodation, entertainment, events and activities, and destinations, to the public, especially local and international tourists. Members of the public who wish to join in the effort can share their stories using the hashtag #AboutKL on social media.
