EXPERIENCE MALAYSIA’S SACRED SPACES: MOSQUE OPEN DAY RETURNS AS ITM 2025 CENTREPIECE

KUALA LUMPUR, 5 SEPTEMBER 2025 – The Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC) is pleased to announce the return of Mosque Open Day (MOD), a signature initiative under the Islamic Tourism Month (ITM) 2025 programme. This nationwide event invites the public; including non-Muslim visitors, to experience Malaysia’s mosques as welcoming cultural and spiritual landmarks.

MOD promotes understanding, dialogue, and appreciation of Islamic heritage by offering guided tours, exhibitions, and community engagement activities at selected mosques across the country. With 6,851 mosques nationwide and 97 identified as tourism mosques, MOD plays a vital role in showcasing these sacred spaces as inclusive destinations for both domestic and international visitors.

The programme will be held throughout September 2025 at the following locations:

  • Masjid Al-Qodim, Sarawak – 5 to 7 September 2025
  • Masjid Alam Impian, Selangor – 6 September 2025
  • Masjid Tun Abdul Aziz, Selangor – 13 September 2025
  • Masjid Muhammadi, Kelantan – 15 September 2025
  • Masjid Sendayan, Negeri Sembilan – 18 September 2025

  • Masjid Negara, Kuala Lumpur – 27 September 2025
  • Masjid Muhammadiah Cina Ipoh, Perak – 28 September 2025
  • Masjid Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

Each event will feature a curated programme of activities designed to engage diverse audiences, including:

  • Health Talk Forum and Brisk Walk
  • Cross-Cultural Engagement Sessions
  • Various contests for children and teenagers
  • Traditional Games (Sukan Rakyat)
  • Forum Perdana featuring distinguished speakers

MOD complements Malaysia’s broader efforts to expand Muslim-Friendly Tourism and Hospitality (MFTH), particularly in the lead-up to Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026). It also supports ITC’s long-term initiatives such as the Mosque Visit Guide (MosVi) training and the development of the Tourism Mosque Directory, which currently features 51 mosques and is accessible via the My Muslim Trip platform at mymuslimtrip.com. By opening mosque doors to the world, MOD helps position Malaysia not only as a top Muslim-friendly destination, but also as a leader in cultural diplomacy and interfaith engagement.
