BAGAN DATUK, 4 AUGUST 2026: A mosque may not be the first place that comes to mind for a weekend outing. This August, the Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC) hopes to change that.
From 13 to 15 August 2026, the Tuminah Hamidi Mosque in Bagan Datuk will open its doors to visitors from all walks of life for Malaysia’s first National Mosque Open Day, a celebration of culture, community and Malaysian hospitality.
Organised by ITC under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), the inaugural event aims to showcase mosques as more than places of worship. They are also vibrant community spaces where people gather to learn, connect, volunteer and celebrate shared values and traditions.
Whether you’re a history enthusiast, architecture lover, sports fan, foodie or simply looking for a meaningful weekend with family and friends, the National Mosque Open Day offers something for everyone.
The programme begins on 13 August with activities dedicated to the nurturing of the heart and soul, featuring a Qasidah performance by the Nur Ahli Badar group, followed by tausiyah (short sermons) by Alfadhil Ustaz Habib

The highlight on 15 August is a vibrant community festival at Dataran Bagan Datuk, featuring activities for all ages. Visitors can kick-start the morning with a ‘Brisk Walk’ alongside actor Bell Ngasri, before enjoying traditional games, a 3×3 Street Soccer tournament, e-sports competitions, archery, a khat (Islamic calligraphy) demonstration and the azan competition. Children can also take part in a colouring contest while families explore the mosque and its surroundings.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, visitors can catch appearances and stage segments featuring Aril Pilus and Elly Mazlein, alongside engaging performances, live demonstrations, exhibitor sharing sessions, lucky draws and cultural showcases throughout the day.
The National Mosque Open Day 2026 will be officially launched by YAB Dato’ Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia.
As Malaysia continues to strengthen its position as a leading Muslim-friendly tourism destination, the National Mosque Open Day reflects the country’s commitment to fostering greater understanding, inclusivity and appreciation of its rich Islamic heritage through meaningful community engagement.
Admission is free, and everyone is welcome, regardless of race, religion or nationality.
